THE COMMITTEE ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD

Español

What are the National Coalitions on behalf of the Rights of the Child?

National Coalitions on behalf of the Rights of the Child are local NGO networks grouped around the advocacy of the rights of boys and girls, and engaged in the dissemination, promotion and application of the CRC at national level.

They mostly emerged as a response to the need for preparing an “alternative report” to the reports submitted by the governments to the Committee on the status of the rights of boys and girls in their respective countries.

Besides the preparation of this “alternative report”, the Coalitions include among their purposes:

      ·       To promote and disseminate the CRC at natonal level.

·       To watch over the compliance with the CRC at national level.

·       To have a say at national level on decision-making related to legislative and political
reforms within the framework of the rights provided for in the CRC.

·
To foster the dialogue between the government and the civil society on this matter,
        although preserving their autonomy.
