How
is the Committee on the Rights of the Child formed? The
Committee is formed by eighteen independent experts, selected by the State
Parties for a 4-year period, with the possibility of being reelected for
one additional period. They are selected according to their moral
integrity, knowledge, background and personal capabilities. An equal
geographic distribution, as well as the representation of the major legal
systems, are taken into consideration as well. The members of the Committee are selected by secret voting from a list of persons appointed by the State Parties. Every State Party may appoint one person among its own nationals. Enclosed you will find the Member's Committee Chart. (Annex 1)
