         COMPOSITION OF THE THREE-CANDIDATE LIST FOR
THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE IIN 

(Submitted by the Delegations of Canada and Chile)

 

THE DIRECTING COUNCIL, 

HAVING SEEN:  

1.   That Article 25 c. in the IIN Statute establishes that the Secretary General of the OAS shall appoint the new Director General from a three-candidate list proposed by the Directing Council at a face-to-face Meeting; 

 

2.   That to be part of such list each candidate must receive at least the majority of the votes of the Member States present, subject to the availability of the relevant quorum, in accordance with the above mentioned Article and Article 15.c in the Statute; 

 

3.    That three candidates were nominated in due time:

 

COLOMBIA                          Sonia Eljach Polo

 

GUATEMALA                       Justo Vinicio Solórzano León

 

MEXICO                               María de los Dolores Aguilar Marmolejo

 

  1. That at the time of electing the three-candidate list the quorum was composed of nineteen Member States: Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay;

CONSIDERING:

 

1.         That the Plenary of the IIN Directing Council submitted by acclamation a list of three qualified candidates for the position of the Director General of the IIN;

2.         That not all the candidates were present at the 81st Regular Meeting of the Directing Council of the IIN, 7-8 November, Montevideo, Uruguay; 

3.         That the Plenary considers this position of Director General to be strategic, therefore, the candidate must have an excellent knowledge of child rights and the realization of these rights in the Americas. As well, the candidate must demonstrate leadership, business skills and have the ability to build successful partnerships and alliances to strengthen the IIN. 

RESOLVES: 

That the Plenary request that the Secretary General of the OAS convene an interview with all three candidates at the earliest opportunity prior to making a final selection and appointment of the Director General of the IIN.
