RECOMMENDATION ON THE
RIGHT OF CHILDREN TO PARTICIPATE
THE
DIRECTING COUNCIL,
CONSIDERING:
- That
Articles 12, 13, 14, and 16 of the Convention on the Rights of the
Child enshrine the inalienable right of children to participate in
matters concerning them;
- That,
in view of the objectives of the Inter-American Children’s Institute
(IIN), it is considered vital to hear and consider the views of
children and adolescents in determining lines of research and in
defining solutions to be adopted in the areas of child, adolescent,
and family issues;
RECOMMENDS:
- To
suggest the Inter-American Children’s Institute to create mechanisms
to give effectiveness to the guarantee of participation by children in
the different authorities with responsibility for them.
-
To
suggest the IIN to ensure that the views expressed by children via
such mechanisms as may be created in keeping with the preceding
operative paragraph be taken into account, both in determining lines
of research to be conducted and in such solutions as may be adopted in
its areas of competence
