The Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, established a legal framework for the protection of children from sexual violence.
In addition, the international community has mobilized strongly in this regard. Of particular note are the Declaration and Action Plan against Sexual Exploitation arising from the First World Congress against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children held in Stockholm in 1996.
In this context, the Inter-American Children's Institute (IIN), as an OAS Specialized Organization in matters related to childhood and the family, has noted Member States’ interest and concern regarding the problem of CSEC and has been working actively on the subject.
In partnership with Save the Children Sweden and ECPAT International, the IIN launched the ANNAObserva portal, which seeks to strengthen the capabilities of government and organized civil society actors in their action to protect children from sexual exploitation.
