Report from committee for CONGO

Current Leadership and membership-Co-Chairs are: Mary Miller and David Roth.

There are 35 members of the committee

Summary from February 2002 to May 2002:

1. Committee had written a Statement for the 40th Session Commission for Social Development, which was read at the Commission by Mary Miller.  

2. Committee had written a statement for The Commission on the Status of Women.  Which was shared on an informal basis since we missed the deadline for submitting it.

3. The committee meeting in March had Lenora Ucko, PhD as our speaker using “StoriesWork” as a means of counselling women who are encountering domestic violence.  This was a side event for the Commission on the Status of Women.

4. The committee meeting in April had Narelle Townsend speak on "Housing and the Impact on Family Life.

5. The DPI/NGO Briefing in May was on observance of "International Day of Families" conducted in conjunction with the NGO Committee on Ageing and the Family Unit. Topic: "Family and Ageing: Opportunities and Challenges"

Moving forward the committee is in the process of planning meetings that reflect on the 10th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family.

Our next scheduled program is during the 55th DPI/NGO Conference as a side event.

Titled: "Community and Family Survival and Recovery".
