AGREEMENT BETWEEN 
THE INSTITUTO NACIONAL DEL MENOR AND THE INTER-AMERICAN CHILDREN’S INSTITUTE

CONSIDERING THAT: 

  1. Since 1934 the Instituto Nacional del Menor [National Institute for the Underage] –hereinafter named INAME– has been the body in charge of governing policies aimed at children and adolescents in the Republic of Uruguay
  1. The Inter-American Children’s Institute –hereinafter named IIN– is a Specialized Organization forming part of the Organization of American States, created by resolution passed by the 1924 Fourth Pan-American Child Congress  and founded in 1927 in order to promote cooperation programs between countries in America, which are aimed at improving the condition of children, young persons and family concerning sanitary, educational, social, cultural and legal aspects.
  1. The IIN has, since its foundation, permanently carried out tasks regarding technical cooperation, information, diffusion and training on different subjects concerning children in this hemisphere, as well as joint activities with other public and private organizations from countries that form part of the Inter-American System.
  1. The IIN has been developing a series of tools aimed at diffusing the principles contained in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, through the use of videos, books and videogames, amongst other tools.
  1. The IIN has specifically developed three books on the Rights of the Child, which are aimed at children and which, from the point of view of the Comprehensive Protection approach, and by means of respecting the basic principles stated in the abovementioned Convention, seek to diffuse the information on the rights and obligations of children.
  1. The IIN and INAME have signed several agreements on issues concerning the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

THE PARTIES AGREE AS FOLLOWS: 

  1. The IIN shall provide INAME with a compact disc containing the graphic-arts work needed in order to print an edition of the book entitled ‘Los Niños, las Niñas y sus Derechos’ [Children and their Rights].
  1. INAME commits itself to keeping the printing quality standards of the originals, and to informing the IIN about the edition and distribution of the book.
  1. INAME will be authorized to incorporate the existing logos, as well as the institution’s logos and the logos of those sponsoring the book’s printing, if that would be the case.
  1. INAME will hand over five copies of the edition that has been printed to the IIN.
  1. Graphic-arts work may not be handed over to third parties without the IIN’s previous consent, for the IIN owns the copyright on the abovementioned publication.

The delegates representing both parties, having been duly authorized for the purposes hereof, sign these presents in two copies of the same tenor and validity, this 28th day of April of the year 2004.

The Director General of the IIN has signed ‘ad referendum’ to the IIN’s Directing Council.
